I obtained my Bachelor of Psychology from Midrand Graduate Institute in Durbanville in 2015. I am now registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa under the category of Registered Counsellor.
As part of my internship in 2014 I worked in various settings including Mater Domini Women’s Shelter, Wesbank No. 1 Primary School, BADISA, and MGI Counselling & Assessment Centre. During this time I provided individual and group counselling sessions to children, adolescents and adults from all walks of life.
I have experience working with clients who have (among other difficulties) suffered from low self-esteem, physical and sexual abuse, substance abuse and dependence, grief and bereavement, relationship difficulties, HIV/AIDS, and a general loss of hope for a better future.
I came to realize the positive impact that the simple notion of a safe, therapeutic space can have on a client. What we all need is someone to listen us, free of judgement or bias, full of acceptance and support.
What exactly is a Registered Counsellor?
During my internship I also worked as part of a dedicated team to develop and facilitate after-school and holiday life skills programmes for primary school learners. Working in these schools I discovered the passion that I have for enriching the minds and skill sets of our youth, a passion which was further fueled whilst volunteering in Malawi in 2015.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where not everybody is born with equal opportunities. I believe that it is our responsibility to work towards building a world where everybody matters, everybody has a voice, and everybody has the opportunity and resources available to them to reach their dreams. I have no doubt that each and every person, regardless of background, with a little bit of help, is capable of reaching their full potential, creating meaningful relationships, and living a fulfilling life.
